"TESTING, TESTING 123"
The Rise of Audiobooks
Some
readers are die-hard book fans, whether hardcopy or softcover, and that’s fine;
I get it. There is nothing better than the aromatic scent of a book. Each time
I enter a bookstore or library, melancholy
fills
me.
It
reminds me of those days when I would visit our local bookstore downtown, and my
reaction to seeing the rows and shelves of books was like a kid in a candy
store.
I
did not know what would come years later when ebooks and audiobooks emerged.
Recorded
books have been around since 1932 and were established by the American Foundation
for the Blind recorded the first books on vinyl.
Then,
in 1955 The Listening Library stepped up its game, following in the footsteps
of the AFFB. Recorded books caught on and expanded to libraries during the 1960s
in the form of cassette recordings.
Since
then, we’ve come a long way and understand why audiobooks caught fire and are
now a booming business.
In
the 80s, audiobooks were the perfect accompanying tool for paperback books. You
could read your favorite author’s books and listen to them too.
People
love entertainment in any form. Audiobooks do not disappoint when the right
narrators tell the story allowing the character’s voices to take on life and readers
on a listening journey.
Audiobooks
solved the problem of less reading time for those on the go, not only convenient
but available through memberships or free with paid subscriptions through
Audible, Prime, and Kindle Unlimited. Your local library can accommodate those
who refuse to submit to capitalism or are staunch penny-pinchers if you have an
active library card.
Now
that audiobooks are a whole vibe and become prolific and relevant in the publishing
world, getting in on the audiobook game as an Independent author makes sense.
Even
if you can’t afford to hire someone to produce the work for you, there are
other ways of audiobook creation if you’re working on limited budgets DIY. But
remember, quality over quantity is a thing.
There
is information galore on how to create, produce and distribute your book if you
decide to do it yourself.
Google
it and find a source that works for you.
The
rise of audiobooks is not a fad; they’ve been around for years and are here to
stay.
