"GOT TO BE REAL"
AI vs. Original Content
Cheryl
Lynn kept it 100% real in the song that shot to the top of the Billboard Hot
Soul Singles in 1978-79. Ms. Lynn, Paich, and Foster penned the lyrics.
Even
before then, writing original content was a whole thing. Singers, Authors, and
Co-authors wanted and deserved credit for penning songs or books.
Now
with the help of AI, it’s hard to tell what’s authentic or Bot generated.
We
all need help sometimes; editors use editing tools to help them edit efficiently.
Grammarly and ProWritingAid are prime examples of the quintessential editing
aid for independent authors.
But
that concept has drastically changed as we move into a new era of artificial
intelligence.
Now,
I’m not bashing technology. I’m a huge fan of scientific development and its uses.
But what I do have an issue with is fairness.
Case
and point, is it fair to claim ownership of anything that’s not original
content? Sampling isn’t new. However, those who did it legally by asking
permission and giving credit where due didn’t have their cases play out in
court when done without consent.
Okay,
so maybe AI isn’t sampling from other artists, but is it okay to use this
technology while passing it off as authentic content?
What
I’m not accusing AI of is plagiarism. AI generates content based on the information
fed to its system. Technically, it can’t and won’t be held accountable for any
crime because it’s not a real person.
But
is that fair to writers who spend countless hours pounding out books and
scripts only to have a Chatbot do less with the same results?
I’ve
heard numerous arguments about how AI can’t imitate human emotions such as
inflection and love. But who will know the difference If the AI user gives specific
details of how they want the story written?
Honestly,
could even the most experienced writer know the difference?
On
the other hand, AI could give writers with stories inside them an opportunity
to see how it’s done and use that as a template to become better at what they
love.
You
decide if AI is the devil or a Godsend.
