"THE WRITE TIME"
How the Pandemic Can Help Authors
Covid-19
has altered the normalcy of our present and perhaps future lives. I understand
how something of this magnitude can affect people in many different ways.
We
try to process all the changes that we’ve undergone during this dangerous epidemic,
but through every tragic experience, good things can happen as a result.
Trust
me, I am going somewhere with this, and it pertains to the topic of writing and
authors, and how the pandemic can benefit writers.
As a
writer, we strive hard to maintain our routine; now, with everyone staying
indoors and working from home, it’s the perfect opportunity to move forward
with your writing career.
Book
sales have increased due to the shutdown, which suggests people are reading
more. Adults and children. Also, since they can’t purchase books from brick and
mortar stores, online sales, and eBook’s are dominating the market.
Great
news for Indie and agented authors too. No greater time exits for writing
ideas. It’s like a gift for writers who have run out of topics; now, they have
fresh ideas.
I’ve
noticed several new titles about love during a pandemic and other imaginative fiction
titles that seem quite interesting.
I
know it’s hard to imagine how something as terrible as a pandemic can have
benefits, but it’s true.
Currently,
we’re experiencing cleaner air because there is less traffic, cleaner water that’s
good for the environment too.
So
back to the benefits of writing during this pandemic. According to Poets &
Writers.org, there has never been a better time to benefit from a crisis. I
know it might sound a little unethical, but we understand how forest fires promote
new life.
Understandably,
there is no comparison for a pandemic and fires, but clearly, they both promote
action.
Now,
the article from P&W states that there are resources for writers during the
pandemic and has compiled a list of financial relief organizations to help
struggling writers and journalists who write for a living. Now the information is vast so that I won’t
list them all, but I can give you the web address for further details at www.pw.org.
And if
you’re one of the fortunate writers who don’t require any financial help, you
can still keep your craft at its tip-top best. According to The New York Times,
they have 12 ideas for writing through the pandemic. If you’d like more info
visit their website at www.nytimes.com
Even with so many positive outlets,
there are downsides, too, like publishing delays due to limited staff on the
production side unable to give your project the attention it deserves due to
the pandemic.
We
all need a bit of good cheer to get us through these difficult times, and as
writers, we all try to make the best from horrible situations.
